Want to be a Dragon!

Request on behalf of Catalyst Science and Discovery Centre.

Catalyst are taking part in National Enterprise Week (15 – 19th November) celebrations and will be running their hugely popular Enterprise Challenge and are looking for ‘dragons’ for the judging panel.  During this full day event pupils will watch a film before being challenged to design a product or a service that could help save our planet. They will think about potential markets, develop a trial product, devise a marketing plan and produce a PowerPoint presentation which they will present to their peers and a panel of judges in a "Dragons' Den" style presentation.  After all the presentations the panel of judges will select the winning entry.

The format of the day is:

10.00 - the schools will watch a film ‘The End of the World Show’ as inspiration

11.15 - large groups create a gadget/gizmo to save the planet including costs, scientific explanation, PowerPoint and a model

1.00 - groups pitch their idea to their peers and the panel of judges (ie the ‘dragons’)

Enterprise Week runs from the 15 – 19th November and volunteers are needed for the Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Friday to be judges.  Volunteers would need to arrive at Catalyst by 12.45pm and would be finished by  2.30pm at the very latest (all volunteers are invited to lunch beforehand at approx 12.15pm).  They are also very welcome to come along to see the students at work beforehand – between 11.15 and 12.00.

We do hope that either you or someone from your organisation can join in – everyone has great fun and the schools really appreciate meeting “real” scientists.

Please feel free to circulate this in your organisation.
