Engineering YES (Young Entrepreneurs Scheme) is a unique opportunity for post-graduate and post-doctoral researchers in engineering-related subjects at UK universities to experience the process of commercialising a research idea. This business plan competition has a real buzz; running over three days (and nights), delegates work in small teams to prepare a business plan for a fictitious company, culminating in a nerve-wracking presentation to a panel of investors. The intensive programme of activities away from the university environment is considered a key factor in the programme’s success, leaving participants with a firm understanding of the world of business and commerce, and experience of operating in a high-pressure environment.
