Public Sector Landscape

As I am sure you are aware there are many changes forthcoming in the public sector landscape following the recent change in Government, including the abolition of Regional Development Agencies (RDAs) by end March 2012.

The present proposals suggest that in future some RDA functions will be led at a national level whilst others will be replaced by the formation of Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs).  LEPs will be joint local authority- business led organisations that will promote economic development in their area.  There is an ongoing consultation regarding LEPS (open until 6 September) so their geography and scope is still to be determined.

There is going to be a lot of uncertainty over the coming months whilst many public sector bodies and their responsibilities and funding are under scrutiny, but we will try to keep you updated on any changes that affect the NW chemical sector.

Chemicals Northwest currently receives partial grant funding from the NWDA and we are likely to see this funding reduced for 2010/11 and beyond, so we are contacting various organisations about where we should be focussing our attention in order to continue to deliver value to the region.  The involvement and support of our members will be a key factor during this period of uncertainty, so we welcome any comments or suggestions.
