Photonics Technology Innovation Centre (TIC) Interim Report

The Technology Strategy Board announced in May 2011 the intention to create a further 3 Technology and Innovation Centres (TICs) from a list of 10 identified priority area candidates. One of the technology areas identified was Photonics based on the responses received to the prospectus published in January 2011. TICs will fill a critical gap in the UK’s innovation landscape and over the next 4 years, the Technology Strategy Board will invest £200M in six TICS.

Following consultations on a Photonics Technology Innovation Centre (TIC) via an online questionnaire and the consultation workshop in London on July 14 2011, a summary of the outputs from these consultations was published on August 10 2011 entitled Photonics TIC Interim Report. The report is available on _connect and can be downloaded here

We would greatly value your feedback on the report in preparation for the next stage of the Technology Strategy Board’s consultation process on candidate Technology Innovation Centres and comments can be made here on _connect or by email to Peter Batchelor. The deadline for comments is Friday September 9th 2011.

We would value feedback on the recommendations put forward in the report, in particular the key areas and potential activities of a Photonics TIC.  We would also appreciate your views on which existing centres may be strong candidates. Feedback would be strongly welcomed from companies who would consider working with and investing their innovation resources in a Photonics TIC.
