Lancashire global polymer business Victrex has appointed Pamela Kirby as a non-executive director.

Kirby, the chairman of US drug discovery company Scynexis, will join Victrex on 9 February. She is also a non-executive director of London medical devices company Smith & Nephew, Switzerland-headquartered Informa, and pharmaceutical manufacturer Novo-Nordisk.

Speaking about the appointment, Victrex chairman Anita Frew said: “Her extensive background within the international medical industry, particularly relating to strategic planning and marketing will contribute significantly to our board and the future development of the company.”

In December 2010, Victrex, based in Thornton Cleveleys, reported record revenues and profits in the year to 30 September following much-improved sales and exchange rate gains.

Turnover was £198.5m for the year, up from £103.8m for the 12 months to 30 September 2009. Profit before tax jumped from £25m to £74.9m.
