Member news - Jeyes plan for the future with Remsol

Environmental services company Remsol has been appointed by international cleaning product manufacturer Jeyes Group.

Remsol is working with Jeyes management to produce a new emergency response plan for Jeyes’ chemical processing plant at Thetford, Norfolk, to assist compliance with legislation. The hazard classification of one of the chemicals used at the site has changed, meaning it is now covered by the Control of Major Accident Hazards regulations (COMAH).

The plan undertaken by Remsol will provide the site’s employees with step-by-step instructions detailing what to do in the event of a major fire, explosion or chemical spill.

Group HSE Manager at Jeyes, Dr Bill White, said: “We were impressed with how Remsol were able to quickly demonstrate their understanding of our needs.  Their wealth of knowledge of the chemical manufacturing industry gives them the insight needed to effectively deliver the complex plan we require.”

Managing director of Remsol, Lee Petts, added: “We are delighted to be working with Jeyes.  This contract allows us to draw on our experience of best practice from across the industry to present an emergency response plan that is thorough, comprehensive, user-friendly and tailored to our client’s needs.”

Robust emergency procedures can help prevent major incidents and resulting legal action.  Chemicals firm Biolab UK was forced to pay £146,000 in September 2010 after an explosion at its Gloucester factory in 2006 saw chemicals leak into a river, devastating wildlife.  The water treatment firm admitted it had not taken all the necessary steps which could have prevented the incident.
