Business Minister Mark Prisk today called on experienced business people to get involved in Get Mentoring, a new project led by the Small Firms Enterprise Development Initiative (SFEDI), to recruit and train 10,000 volunteer business mentors from the small, medium and micro business community in order to help the next generation of SMEs to grow and prosper. Get Mentoring will be funded through new grant funding of £1.2m.
The 10,000 volunteers recruited and trained through Get Mentoring are additional to the 5,000 mentors already announced by the Home Secretary on 4th November. A range of private sector project partners including Institute of Directors, British Chambers of Commerce, Federation of Small Businesses and the Federation of Private Business are providing further support and time contributions worth up to an estimated £3.7m . Once trained, these new volunteer business mentors will be accessible through www.mentorsme.co.uk.
