Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines
You may have read the headlines last week as Solar Impulse touched down after completing the world's first day and night flight powered solely by solar energy but just in case you missed it, you can see footage of this amazing world-first here.
Chemicals Northwest member, Solvay, is one of Solar Impulse's main partners. As well as providing financial support, Solvay plays a very active role in the project offering innovative and technological solutions, and expertise.
In fact, over 6000 parts in the Solar Impulse contain Solvay materials from Solvay Advanced Polymers, Solvay Solexis and Solvay Fluor, especially ultra high performance polymers.
This is just another example of how chemicals shape our world (often without us even knowing it) and the vital role they have to play in helping address the global challenges of the future
