EPSRC Industrial CASE Awards 2010
In collaboration with the Engineering and Physical Science Research Council (EPSRC), the NWDA now invites applications for one of 2 EPSRC PhD Industrial CASE studentships. For further information and to download an application form please click here
These awards enable companies to take the lead in defining and setting up research projects with a Research Organisation of their choice.
Projects must be in engineering or physical sciences and jointly supervised by the academic and industrial partners.
As a measure of their interest and involvement, the company must make a mandatory financial contribution in cash to the Research Organisation, towards the cost of the project and support of the student. This contribution must be at least 1/3rd the funding provided by EPSRC. This year (2010/11), EPSRC is paying approx £66,800 for a 3.5 year studentship, and expects the company to contribute at least £22,500 in cash over the period of the studentship. The company is also expected to cover all expenses (e.g. travel and accommodation costs) incurred by the student as a result of periods spent at their company.
Applications will be assessed particularly on the relevance of the proposal to:
◦ RES priority sectors: Energy and Environmental Technologies, Digital and Creative Industries, Advanced Engineering and Materials and Biomedical.
◦ Potential for exploitation of results.
◦ Quality and scope of the training that will be offered to the student by the partner company.
Please note that this scheme is only open to SMEs and only those applications with at least one partner within the Northwest region will be considered.
Closing Date for Applications: 30th April 2010.
