Environment Agency - River Basin Management
Piloting a Catchment-based Approach
The Environment Agency has announced the ten river catchment areas that will be included in their 'Catchment Based Approach to River Basin Management' pilot project. The EA want to engage with delivery partners at a local catchment level in a way that encourages greater participation from others and therefore achieves more for our water environment.
From now until December 2012, they will test new approaches in ten catchments with a view to rolling-out effective elements to other catchments from 2013. They also want to encourage other organisations to facilitate similar catchment pilots elsewhere.
There are two catchment areas in the Northwest included in the national scheme. These are the river's; Ribble and Irwell. If your business operates in these catchments there will be an increased focus on issues associated with the river and its surrounding areas. There will be opportunities to get involved and support the initiatives.
