Eco-Innovation Questionnaire for SME's

To deliver feedback to the European Commission on how SMEs could be assisted and encouraged to undertake Eco-Innovation activities in the future.

REMake (Recycling and Resource Efficiency driving innovation in European Manufacturing SMEs) The REMake partnership addresses innovation support in the area of recycling and resource efficiency (RRE). The participants are six national and regional agencies, three industrial associations and seven technical centres and consultants from across Europe. The project plans to test, with the SMEs, a self-assessment tool on RRE innovation performance as well as training and consultancy modules on eco-design, life-cycle assessment, and eco-innovation management (see http://www.ecomanufacturing.eu/ for more details).

The project sets out to address a number of sector-related innovation barriers:

• Access to technical and non-technical innovation knowledge;
• Improvement of technical and non-technical innovation skills;
• Better cooperation inside supply chains through promotion of innovation services;
• Promotion of the use of innovation-enabling standards.

The following questionnaire will be used across the EU to determine how SMEs could be assisted and encouraged to undertake Eco-Innovation activities through standards and regulations. The feedback collected will be included in policy recommendations put forward to the European Commission. The results will be presented to the European decision-makers and main stakeholders during a roundtable to be held in Brussels in the first half of 2012. The aim is to contribute to the future development of the European Commission’s "roadmap to a resource-efficient Europe" (see http://ec.europa.eu/environment/resource_efficiency/ for more details).
