The chemicals industry in Australia turns over approximately A$32.5 billion every year (about £20 billion), directly employ 85,000 people and represents between 9 and 10 per cent of total Australian manufacturing activity. Australia also has major capabilities in the associated petrochemical (A$40 billion turnover) and pharmaceutical ($10 billion turnover) manufacturing industries.
