Catalyst Science Discovery Centre
Chemicals Northwest is a sponsor of the Catalyst Science Discovery Centre in Widnes and the activities that it promotes to students through its workshops, clubs and special events.
The centre is a valuable resource in the region and is the only science centre dedicated to chemistry. It plays a hugely important role in encouraging children to study science, especially chemistry, and also assists trainee teachers in how to make science interesting for children.
Catalyst provides a dynamic learning experience; it has three hands-on galleries to explore as well as a state of the art laboratory where school pupils as young as seven are taught practical science by Catalyst’s own enthusiastic education team.
The Centre has an interactive theatre where films supported by local businesses take visitors on a 360 degree virtual tour aound sites such as INEOS in Runcorn, Astra Zeneca in Macclesfield and Novelis Recycling in Warrington. With sections in 3D and individual voting, visitors discover what it is like to be employed in these companies, what career opportunities are available and how the products they make are manufactured.
Unlike other museums, Catalyst is not centrally funded and so it relies on its gate fees as well as industry and organisations in the area to support it, you can do your bit to help by becoming a friend of Catalyst.
